Electives
Community Partners make it possible for us to provide Summit students high quality, elective learning during Intersession. Summit has offered Art, Musical Theater, Technology, Photography, Instrumental Music, Robotics, College Readiness, Internships, Aikido, Physical Fitness, Wilderness Experience, Debate and several Independent Study courses that have included travel to Alaska, Costa Rica, Africa and Italy.
A self-study program in 2009 was the idea of a group of students who wanted to integrate academics with their compassion to help others halfway around the world. They found sponsors and raised money so that they and their parent volunteers could help cultivate gardens in South Africa. Working alongside local villagers, they made a significant contribution to their quality of life.Student-Initiated Activities
Balance is a cornerstone of learning at Summit Prep. In addition to academics, students are encouraged to explore and develop a wide variety of athletic, creative, cultural and civic activities. All students participate in extracurricular activities that support the goals of their Personalized Learning Plan and organize activities ranging from Blood Drives to a variety of fundraisers for social causes. Other social activities include school camping trips and grade-level study trips around California, school dances, Prom, Spirit Week, and Homecoming.
Clubs
Summit encourages its students to start, participate in, manage and enjoy clubs that satisfy their interests, many of which originate in the process of students creating their Personalized Learning Plans and exploring their personal interests. While new clubs are forming all the time, here are some examples of Summit’s student-run clubs:
- Student Government/Student Senate
- Poetry Club
- Art Club
