Tony Glaves – Board Chairman
Tony is CEO of BNT Ventures, an investment firm he co-founded in 2003. He joined the Summit Prep board out of his commitment to improve California public schools, of which he is an alumni and where all three of his children attended school as well.
Prior to BNT, Tony served in executive operating and board positions with several Silicon Valley start-ups for ten years. And earlier, for over 14 years, he held executive positions at the Time Incorporated Magazine Company and served as Publisher for Sunset Magazine from 1996 to 1997. Tony earned a BS in Business Administration with a minor in Economics from San Diego State University. He currently also serves on the board of the Raphael House in San Francisco, and lives with his family in Palo Alto.
Todd Dickson – Executive Director
Under Todd’s leadership, Summit Prep has been named one of the Top 100 public high schools in America and is featured as an education solution in the nationally acclaimed documentary, Waiting for Superman.
Todd earned a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Denver, where he was also an All-American lacrosse player and team captain. He went on to earn a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University and a second Master’s in Education from Stanford. After Stanford, Todd taught physics for five years at Hillsdale High, the International School of Lisbon, and Summit Preparatory Charter. From 1995-2000, before beginning his current career in education, he successfully built a Colorado residential real estate company, the Melton Group.
When not thinking about how to fix public education, Todd enjoys spending time with his wife of 10 years and their two young children, ages 3 and 1. He also enjoys running, surfing, and following all things Colorado sports.
Olga Pulido-Crowe – Finance Chair
Olga has been active in the financial services industry for over twenty years. Her career includes over 22 years at Lehman Brothers where she was an investment banker and Chief Administrative Officer for the West Coast Investment Banking Division. While at Lehman, Olga advised numerous companies across a wide spectrum of industries in their capital raising and mergers and acquisitions activities and led philanthropy and diversity initiatives. Olga holds a Master’s in Business Administration from Harvard Business School and a Bachelor of Arts, summa cum laude, from California State University, Stanislaus.
In addition to her service on the Summit Preparatory Charter High School Board, Olga serves on the Board of Menlo Park-Atherton Education Foundation, where she was Treasurer and currently serves on its Investment Committee.
Gary Borden – Governance Chair
Gary currently serves as Senior Vice President for Statewide Advocacy for the California Charter Schools Association. He holds a law degree from Georgetown University and a bachelor's degree in economics and international business from the Pennsylvania State University.
Prior to CCSA, Gary served as Acting Executive Director of the California State Board of Education, and before that, as Deputy Executive Director. He has advised board members on education policy matters, managed the Board staff, and prepared the Board’s bi-monthly meeting agenda. He has provided the Board with advice and counsel on the broad range of education policy matters within the Board’s responsibility, including curriculum and instruction, assessment and accountability, professional development, special education, charter schools, and implementation of No Child Left Behind.
Prior to serving on the Board, he worked as legal counsel and a consultant for Charter Schools Development Center and performed government relations and policy work for CharterVoice. Gary has also been an associate with Cooley Godward LLP, and a consultant with Accenture Consulting.
Busy Burr – Community Outreach Chair
Busy is a sought-after strategic advisor to Silicon Valley companies as well as being an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at eBay. She has over 25 years of business experience in marketing, technology, and finance. Busy’s career includes seven years in technology investment banking with Morgan Stanley and Credit Suisse First Boston, and eight years at Gap, Inc., where she held positions in finance, planning, and brand strategy, and she ultimately served as Vice President for Global Brand Management for the Gap brands.
Busy holds a patent for Alterdot technology, an apparel mass customization process and spent five years as founder and CEO of Lucy & Lily, an apparel mass customization e-commerce company. Busy has a BA in Economics from Smith College and an MBA from Stanford.
In addition to serving on the Summit Preparatory Charter High School Board, Busy is a Development Advisor to Peninsula School, and serves on the President’s Advisory Council of Smith College, and on a Board Advisory Committee (ERA) of Emma Willard School.
Ryan Caldbeck – Board Member
Ryan is a Director at Encore Consumer Capital, a private equity firm that focuses on investing in consumer related businesses. He earned a dual B.A. from Duke University, where he graduated cum laude with High Distinction in Public Policy and Psychology, and an M.B.A. from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business. Ryan joined the Summit Prep board because of a passion to help today's youth achieve a great public education. Having grown up in a rural area, Ryan recognizes the importance of providing excellent, cost-efficient public education.
Through his work in private equity, Ryan is also a board member of several Encore portfolio companies, and works with each to help encourage efficient growth. Before joining Encore, Ryan worked for TSG Consumer Partners (formerly The Shansby Group), where he helped manage portfolio companies and conducted diligence in the retail and consumer sectors. Ryan also worked for Bain Capital's private equity group and evaluated opportunities in the healthcare and retail sectors, and The Boston Consulting Group, where he worked with senior management teams on strategy, operational and growth initiatives in a variety of industries.
Bob Adams – Board Member
Nine years ago, Bob and three other Summit founders formed the Summit Management Committee, a precursor to the current school board, to design and build what was to become Summit Prep, a leading-edge, high-performing, diverse public school. In addition, Bob is the primary designer for Summit’s pay-for-performance incentive compensation system and is an authority in school operations and finance. He is a dedicated advocate of school choice, and believes there are better ways to teach rather than “stand and deliver.” His passion for education began 27 years ago when he first volunteered in his son’s kindergarten class.
Bob is President of the Pacific Advisory Group, a wealth management firm and he has previously founded three other companies. He is also one of the two founders of Foundation for the Future, which raises over $1,000,000 a year, and he founded the Woodside High School Foundation. Applying what he learned from public high schools, Bob helped organize and found the Portola Valley School Foundation, where his wife, Susan, also volunteered and was elected to the Board.
Ross Brown – Board Member
Ross has been a senior partner at Egon Zehnder International, the world's preeminent executive recruiting and talent management firm. At EZI, Ross founded and built EZI's technology and telecoms practice. In recent years, he has focused more on Board governance issues. Prior to this, Ross was CEO of AirTouch International, a global wireless service provider. He and his family live in Menlo Park. Ross holds a Masters in Business Administration from Cornell University and a Bachelor of Science from McGill University in Montreal. Ross also sits on the board of The Wine Group, headquartered in Livermore, California.
Christopher Buja – Board Member
Chris brings a depth of experience in telecommunications, education and startups to the Summit board. His professional experience includes Google datacenters, Cisco education and community networks, GTE satellite launch and operations, as well as multiple venture-backed startups in the fields of mobility, medicine and networks. He earned a Master’s Business Administration from Stanford with a concentration in International Affairs, and a Bachelor of Science in Education from Princeton.
Chris has served on advisory panels at Stanford, Princeton and Johns Hopkins and was a sole outside consultant assisting the New York City Department of Education in launching its high school of the future, iSchool. Through the Stanford Alumni Consulting teams, he has assisted local museums, public television stations and non-profit agencies.
Tom Hoster – Board Member
Tom brings decades of financial and development experience to the Summit Board. He has been Chief Financial Officer of six different start-up companies in Silicon Valley, including five technology companies and one medical device company, the most recent, EndoGastric Solutions. Prior to Tom’s arrival in the Bay Area more than twenty years ago, he spent fifteen years in banking in New York City and Columbus, Ohio.
Tom has a degree in Electrical Engineering from Princeton and a Masters in Business Administration from Stanford. He has served as an Annual Giving volunteer for Princeton for more than 30 years, including 20 years as Class Agent for his Princeton Class. He was formerly on the Board of Trustees of Crystal Springs Uplands School.
